The Regional Resource Centre (Eastern Region) for Telemedicine, located at the Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS), Banaras Hindu University, serves as a significant initiative of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MoHFW), Government of India. Established in 2017, the Centre's primary objective is to strengthen and operationalize India’s Digital Health Mission, focusing on the delivery of equitable and accessible healthcare services, particularly to underserved populations.
As one of eight Regional Resource Centres established by the MoHFW across the nation, it plays a pivotal role in enhancing regional capacity, advancing digital infrastructure, and ensuring comprehensive healthcare delivery, thereby embodying the principle of “Reaching the Unreached. ” The Centre currently serves five states and one Union Territory, encompassing 39 medical colleges across Eastern Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
The Centre offers an array of e-Health services, including telemedicine, tele-ICU, and health systems strengthening, and is progressively establishing itself as a leading institution for digital healthcare delivery in the eastern region.
In the context of rapid technological advancements, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is emerging as a transformative force in healthcare, redefining diagnostics, enhancing operational efficiency, and facilitating personalized patient care, particularly in resource-constrained environments.
The forthcoming National Conference on “AI in Healthcare, ” organized by the Regional Resource Centre (Eastern Region), IMS BHU, represents a crucial initiative in the integration of AI innovations into India's healthcare framework.
